The commonly seen in tourism photos of the Cube Houses which are yellow and white in color have become another symbol of the Netherlands along with the tulips, windmills, clogs and gouda cheese.
These were built by Dutch Architect Piet Blom in 1977. Though this architecture was the beginning of what was very typical of 1980’s style.
The 3-D pop-out view has always been very interesting and one of the most common places to visit in Rotterdam. (Aside from the architectural museum which was closed the only day I had a chance to go there 🙁 However, I did get to see the outside and lobby area!
Now back to the Cube Houses: I was very excited to learn the Dutch hostel chain Stayokay have some blocks of hostels there. I booked and thought it was so awesome being able to stay in the Cube Houses! The interior of the rooms are very interesting. The overall stay was great. The rooms and social areas were clean, as well as a very comfy bed.
